About

Castlemaine Pride

Castlemaine Pride is a volunteer-led community group that organises the festival each year. It all began in 2018 when Martyn Shaddick, Sherene Clow and Marion Yates organised a Pride Picnic – an act of healing after the dark days of the marriage equality debate and a thank-you to all those who supported the Queer community. From this humble origin, Castlemaine Pride has grown into a week-long celebration of the culture, history, creativity and determination of the LGBTQIA+ community in Mount Alexander.

We hope our festival shines a light onto what our community can achieve when we stand together, when we choose joy over fear and love over hate. If you’re not part of the LGBTQIA+ community, then we extend our warmest invitation to you to come and share in our festivities. If you are Queer, then what are you waiting for? This is your festival, and we hope you have the most wonderful time.

Castlemaine Pride acknowledges and pays our respects to Djaara, the traditional custodians of Dja Dja Wurrung Country. We pay our respects to their Elders past and present and recognise that this land was stolen; sovereignty never ceded. We honour the contribution of all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander lesbian, gay, bisexual, queer, trans, intersex people, sistergirls and brotherboys to the ever-evolving story of the community.
